Vintage Steam Fair

Hello and Happy Summer everyone!!!!

I have been absent from the blog and facebook lately, because I have been out ENJOYING LIFE!!!! Hanging with the kids, hiking dates with the hubby, sunset sailing and BBQ’s with friends.  Life truly doesn’t get much better than that. Living in the Pacific Northwest, sunny days are actually statewide holidays here, LITERALLY!!! Even bosses let employees go home early many times, for morale. When 10 months out of the year, we live our lives completely at the mercy of the weather forecast, you can see why these days are so coveted.

I thought I would check in and share a very fun and memorable experience I recently had. I tell you, this will definitely go down as one of the most fun days I can remember!

Whilst on location recently in London, we were shooting the gorgeous Sania Pell for an upcoming feature. Driving through the quaint burrows, I spied these intriguing posters out the taxi window. Not being able to put it out of my mind, and knowing I had some free time that afternoon, I asked my long lost brother Thorsten ( we are sure we were somehow split up at birth ) and my lovely Canadian Girlfriend Julie if they would possibly join me and my overwhelming excitement and spend the afternoon at the Vintage Steam Fair. For those of you who don’t know what this is, it is about the most fun thing on Earth!! Think vintage circus, train station and carnival rolled into one.  A little modern steam punk, and a little vintage gypsy. A whole lot cool. All the rides and attractions are steam powered and therefore very interesting. Thorsten and I were like kids in a candy store, I think Julie was there to babysit us. But as you can see from the photos, Julie quickly embraced the festive atmosphere, climbed the long steps to the top of the slide with me and wore the googly glasses. Without any children with us, we suddenly reverted back at least 20-30 years ourselves and acted like we were 10 again. It was great.

Here are some of the photos of the day!

These caravans would provide future inspiration for my Audree!!!

And of course, I have been completely riveted by the TV show My BIG FAT GYPSY Wedding, which these remind me of!

LOVE these food carts and Ice Cream Trucks!

They must have known I was coming:)

One of my favorite photos of the day!

The Steam powered pipe organ on the carousel really worked and played beautiful music as we went round and round………

Thorsten was especially excited by the side shows. Voltini was awesome!! (Unfortunately no photos allowed inside for fear of revealing their secrets of course! All I can say is Julie about jumped out of her skin at the end!:))

After an electrifying performance, we needed some serious sugar to keep our high!
Thanks Julie for a great photo capturing Thorsten’s and my childlike exuberance!

(oh, and FYI, Jo Packham told me wearing this outfit to the show I might be confused with one of the carnies, she knew exactly which look I was going for!:))

Love this photo too…..

Fun vintage games

Ok, this part was a blast. We challenged each other to the ring the bell game. We took the best results out of two gos, I am a little cocky when I say, I BEAT THEIR BUTTS TWICE!!! FARMGIRLS RULE!!!

We were all winners though, because we all got the googly glasses for participating.

The Wall of Death.

It will amaze you.

It will shock you.

It will defy gravity.

The motorcycle guys are HOT.
(bet you weren’t expecting me to say that!! LOL!!)
((I must admit, I had brief fleeting thoughts of running away with one of them:))

You must watch this video and see what we saw, although I am sure it was probably more exciting in person!!

And that’s the Carters Vintage Steam Fair!!

What have you been doing this summer?? What ever it is, I hope it is filled with cotton candy, fairs, BBQ’s and hot motorcycle men:)

Shame on me, I am very (un)fashionably late commenting on your post. That was indeed a fun day and hopefully we can do that again some not too distant day in the future. Maybe you can come and visit your “ancestral hometown”, now that would be great – did you know we have Germany’s second largest Oktoberfest here? .

Thanks for the great photos, they brought back lots of memories for both me and my husband…he remembers the pipe organs on carousels when he would visit the fairs as a little lad in London. Fabulous images and I have to say I came upon a My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding marathon on tv and I must have watched about 5 episodes non stop – totally engrossing.

Tiff That day will always be cherished, there will never be another! I loved every minute of it, except the moment my camera battery died! Thank goodness for iPhones cameras! The slide was the best, not the glasses were funnniest, no Voltini was superb, oh I don’t know it was all amazing esp the motorcycle dudes!! Thanx for taking us on such a fantastic journey back to vintage childhood dreams!

Hi Tiffany!

What a lovely post and fab pictures! I’m so glad you guys enjoyed the steam fair! I wish I’d been there with you. They have it every year in that park, sometimes it’s easy to forget what brilliant things go on on your own doorstep. Thank you for reminding me, I’ll take the kids again next year.

Lots of love, Sania xoxo
