For the longest time I have had a stylized photo shoot in my mind. I wanted to take my papa’s old 1941 dodge truck and have a “Fancy Farmgirl” photo day. The old truck used to be a Good Year Tire Tow Truck many a year ago, but sadly hasn’t run in decades.
The other day I was approached by one of the seniors here at our local high school to job shadow me, as she wanted to complete her senior thesis on photography. I gladly obliged, but told her that instead of following me on a client shoot, which I believed isn’t truly fair to a client, that I set up a stylized shoot for her to shadow me.
This provided me with the perfect opportunity to use papa’s old truck, and finally have my Fancy Farmgirl photo shoot. Of course I had to convince papa that this was a good idea. Especially because I needed to use his tractor to tow the old truck out into the middle of the field (ironic since it is an old tow truck, I know!) Idealy the compost pile was not the best backdrop for my dreamy photo shoot.
When asked why I needed to tow the truck out to the middle of the field, he wasn’t too sure about my answer. He was just not understanding how girls dressed up in vintage prom gowns on the dirty old truck was going to look good.
“Trust Me”, I said.
After hanging out in the field for a little while with us girls, I think he started to get the whole idea.
You see, I told him that girls look cool in trucks too, not just boys!
Especially when decked out in vintage prom gowns and cowgirl boots!
While us Fancy Farmgirls finished up with our photo shoot, my fourteen year old stood on the sidelines the entire time.
Not usually the kid who likes her photo taken (as many of you with fourteen year olds will understand this, they only take portraits of themselves with their cellphones….) I think she secretly wished she was part of the shoot as well.
I changed things up a little with a wardrobe and flower change, and took a few more shots before calling it quits.
This shot is one of my favorites…
Here are a few more fun ones….
Before calling it a day, and what a day it was, sun shining as bright as mid- June, in February. I decided to get a few shots of myself with the old truck and make a new blog banner.
Here are a couple of shots that were contenders, but didn’t make the cut.
(see above for final photo choice!)
One of the nicest things since I have lost all that weight is going through my proofs and thinking I didn’t look fat in ONE SINGLE PICTURE!!
What a great feeling……
On a whim, almost surly knowing the answer to my own question, I asked my fourteen year old if I could have a “Fancy Farmgirl” shoot with her, since we had all the gowns, the weather was great, and the truck was out.
Much to my surprise, she obliged, and even more than that, she really got into it!
A tried and true cowgirl herself, she differs from me only in the “fancy” part.
But you certainly wouldn’t guess from these darling pics of her!
Here are a few of my favorites….
I love this one!
Thanks for coming on my Fancy Farmgirl photo shoot!
