This past weekend was one of my all time most memorable ever. It all started with a conversation with my good friend, Terri Brush. She and I planned to have a small class here in my home studio for a few girls. Or at least that's what we planned….. It turned into a little something...

Tiffany, Yes, I do call myself the Fancy Farmgirl, but there is a very fine line between that and being hillbilly. This weekend I think we crossed that line. What do hillbillies do on the weekends, you might ask? Well, if they live around these parts, they try to catch the varmints that have been eating... Kathy Jacobson - March 29, 2010 - 12:59 pm
That is too funny Tiffany! Barn House - March 27, 2010 - 10:21 am
Too Funny!!! Thanks for making us laugh with this one…living in the country is so colorful and wonderful, racoons and all! Julie Whitmore - March 27, 2010 - 8:16 am
Its nice to find a kindred spirit with Racoon fans too. Berlin - March 25, 2010 - 3:39 pm
Aww what a cute critter, (and us city folk have been known to be quite hillbilly-ish at times, specially on weekends!) Bliss - March 25, 2010 - 1:21 pm
I love your story, what a good laugh! We had a similar problem some years ago when we thought a racoon was getting into our garbage. We heard the live trap banging about late one night. My brave husband (now ex) went outside in the morning, came back in laughing, said “Oops, it’s a skunk”…and left for work. Luckily, it was a tight enough fit that the critter couldn’t raise its tail to spray. I called the father-in-law, he came quickly to the rescue! kristin - March 25, 2010 - 7:55 am
seriously hilarious!! *love* it!! i too had a hill billy moment…sigh…evil rooster finally did me in and as i sat shukin’ corn rockin’ on the front porch, my barefooted hubby brought me a rooster to pluck?!?! Rochelle Gaukel - March 24, 2010 - 8:54 pm
Reading this today and it made me laugh…laugh…laugh! Thanks for my daily dose of endorphins – in this case I accumulated enough for 3 days! Holly Moore - March 24, 2010 - 3:19 pm
So incredibly entertaining! Glad to know my family isn’t the only pack of (almost) hillbillies. impotenta - March 24, 2010 - 7:43 am
Your fancy and beautiful Debi Burton - March 23, 2010 - 2:57 pm
Tiffany, I used to think raccoons were sooo cute . . . until I had to “export” over 50 of them from my back yard! They reproduce like bunnies, ya know!! (And leave unwanted deposits behind–ugh!). debi bock - March 23, 2010 - 7:28 am
This is one of the best stories ever…I needed to laugh this morning really bad…so thank you!! And I loved that you didn’t hurt “junkyard”, sometimes laws are meant to be broken, and in the back at the dump? Hilarious, love it Sarah - March 23, 2010 - 2:53 am
HAHAHA What a great story! Timi - March 22, 2010 - 10:26 pm
LOL…………. Your not a hillbilly! If you were a hillbilly you would have had recipes and pictures of how to cook up that pesky varment AND………you would have pictures of your new coon hat and muff! Jan Hennings - March 22, 2010 - 7:25 pm
LOL! He’s so cute but they can be a real pest! They’re always munching on our cat food too sandy - March 22, 2010 - 6:01 pm
Yah, your a hillbilly for sure. Lori - March 22, 2010 - 5:12 pm
oh, that’s hilarious Tiffany…we used to have raccoons in our garage all the time eating the cat food…installing a cat door solved that problem for us… Pixie - March 22, 2010 - 3:30 pm
hahahha…this reminds me of my dad’s “trap” to get the opposum that kept walking on our roof all night making all kinds of racket. Tiffany ~Shabby Scraps - March 22, 2010 - 3:18 pm
uh oh, looks like I can add something else to the list of laws I have broken!! LOL!!! JK……. kimberly - March 22, 2010 - 3:03 pm
For the record, I believe it is completely and totally illegal to transport wildlife in our state… When we had a raccoon “problem” a couple of years ago in the barn, we were told that we could trap them, but then had to kill them. Yeah, right. They suggested drowning. You must be kidding me. Cindy Holshouser - March 22, 2010 - 1:18 pm
Just a few days after we moved into our house in the “city” of Edgewood one night I heard a strange noise on our front porch. I just opened the door and there stood 3 racoons staring at me. I just shut the door quickly. They are pests but they are so adorable! Cheryl Stoneham - March 22, 2010 - 1:04 pm
OMG, Tiffany! What a great story…especially for me, a little ol city girl, who has also had dealings with a Racoon in my neighborhood! I hope Junkyard has a good life! Debby Messner - March 22, 2010 - 12:49 pm
Cute story. I can’t believe you drove into the junk yard with him in the back. Sheri - March 22, 2010 - 12:45 pm
OMGosh! What a riot!! I would have run like the wind! Connie - March 22, 2010 - 12:41 pm
Fall over backwards???? I’d have been running for my life, sugar! Those critters are MEAN! Ooooh, chick, you were too brave. momma mindy - March 22, 2010 - 11:40 am
When we lived in Kansas, we had similar troubles with oppossums. They would nest in the walls of our trailer, scratching and sniffling all night long. The live trap is a great option! Romeo and "her" - March 22, 2010 - 10:57 am
Oh my gosh Tiffany! “She” is sitting here or was sitting here, she fell of the chair, laughing her tail off! What a riot you are. So glad you don’t live closer, you and “her” would be trouble together! Tiffany ~Shabby Scraps - March 22, 2010 - 10:48 am
Wow, Idont think we are brave enough to trap a bear by ourselves, but who knows!! Florence Muma - March 22, 2010 - 10:39 am
Oh my gosh Tiffany I loved your story and can totally relate, however we live in the country and they do try to get into the cat food. We have actually had a bear in our backyard by our patio door, that would be another story. I know about that scared feeling too, as I had a rooster come at me, trying to get away I too fell down, yikes, I don’t think I will ever have a rooster again. Florence stefanie - March 22, 2010 - 10:16 am
soooo funny, he is sure cute…kinda looks like my cat? Tiffany ~Shabby Scraps - March 22, 2010 - 10:15 am

omg, I remember the story from that night at the barn house campfire!!! I seem to remember something ultimtely about a baseball bat though??? Deb @ Retreat - March 22, 2010 - 9:55 am
You forgot the MOST important part of the story, Tiffany – what were you WEARING when you went to the dump and the wilderness? Sheesh, what do you think we all read your blog for, dear?!!! |
